Puffin acquire Maria Kuzniar’s The Girl With Two Shadows

We are thrilled to announce that world English rights have been acquired for two books by Maria Kuzniar by editor Emma Jones of Puffin, the longstanding children’s imprint of Penguin Random House, from Thérèse Coen. The first book will be The Girl With Two Shadows, a middle-grade feminist adventure that follows Aleja, a fearless girl with a love of books and a crew of female pirates. The Girl With Two Shadows is set to be published in February 2020.

Maria said: “Stories of pirates, treasure hunters and explorers have always fascinated me, but as a girl I often felt left out of them. I wrote The Girl With Two Shadows because we need more adventure stories with girls at the helm. I’m thrilled and delighted that my pirates have found a home with Puffin and can’t wait for readers to meet them.”

Maria holds a BA (hons) in English Literature from the University of Westminster, and lived in Spain for 6 years as an English teacher, which inspired her to write The Girl With Two Shadows. Maria is currently employed to create and produce English teaching video, and is also heavily involved in the book community online, with a blog and over thirty-six thousand followers on her book-themed Instagram account (@cosyreads).
