Karen Ingala Smith

Karen Ingala Smith has worked for over three decades in organisations providing services to women who have been subjected to men’s violence. She is Chief Executive of nia.

Karen is co-founder and Director of the Femicide Census, the most comprehensive source of information about women who have been killed in the UK and the men who have killed them. The Femicide Census grew from her work on Counting Dead Women, where she has commemorated women killed by men in the UK for 10 years.  She is currently completing a PhD on men’s fatal violence against women.

Her writing mainly addresses femicide, sexual and domestic violence, including prostitution and the importance of single-sex services for women.  She is a feminist and professional northerner.
