Sophie Austin’s THE LAMPLIGHTER’S BOOKSHOP has been bought by Kate Bradley at HarperFiction from Caroline Hardman, set to be published in Spring 2025.

THE LAMPLIGHTER’S BOOKSHOP is a historical ‘enemies-to-lovers’ historical fiction set in 1899 York. Evelyn Seaton, an aristocratic daughter of a gambling father, suddenly made destitute with her mother. Eve secretly applies for a bookshop assistant position, but ends up competing with the charming yet secretive William.

Austin says that Eve and William have found a ‘perfect home with HarperFiction’ and is ‘thrilled to work alongside such inspiring and enthusiastic champions of my writing.’

The Italian rights have been sold to Salani in a pre-empt, and the Swedish rights have been sold to Louise Bäckelin Forlag/Modernista.
