Viper has signed Tracy Maton’s debut novel, The Artful Anna Harris. Miranda Jewess acquired UK and Commonwealth excluding Canada rights from Caroline Hardman. North American rights were acquired in a six-figure deal by Lara Hinchberger, executive editor at Penguin Canada.
The book will be published by Viper in hardback, e-book and audiobook in March 2026 by assistant editor Charlotte Greenwood. It will be published by Penguin Canada in July 2026.
The Artful Anna Harris is a modern twist on Patricia Highsmith’s The Talented Mr Ripley. It follows Anna, who has been swallowed into the lives of her boyfriend and in-laws in a sleepy English village, as her world is shaken by the arrival of Sofia Carstairs. Sofia’s vivacity reminds Anna of what it means to be rebellious and carefree, but is she willing to throw away her stable future for some fun? After all, Anna’s not a bad person. But perhaps leading two lives is more enticing than one.
Miranda Jewess commented: “The Artful Anna Harris is one of those books that gets under your skin in the best possible way. Dark and splendidly written, it somehow manages to both pay homage to Tom Ripley while simultaneously being like nothing I’d read before.”
Tracy Maton added: “I am so pleased Anna Harris has been adopted by Viper. Thank you to Charlotte Greenwood and Miranda Jewess for concurring that evil reigning is so much more fun than justice prevailing.”
